This is a modest tribute to my grandmother, Jacqueline, who recently passed away. When I heard the news, I was working on some abstract illustrations. Inspired, I felt compelled to create colorful bubbles of light, or something akin to that, to represent my perception of the intangible world, perhaps the comfort I wished she would experience there.
Today, I drew on a photo my sister sent me, a beautiful picture of my grandmother when she was younger. Departures serve as a poignant reminder of life's great mystery. We may stubbornly attempt to rationalize or justify each person's life through viewpoints and feelings that hold no meaning in the grand scheme of life's natural flow.
Even the intimate processes, connections, relationships, love, and conflicts - it all happens because it is the nature of existence, the path we walk. These paths transform, not instantaneously, but through trajectories, across generations, in the most natural way of being. For I believe the "impossible" ways are beyond our material world.
I am grateful for my grandmother's life and honor her memory. Although we weren't much physically close throughout my life, I increasingly recognize that inheritances live within us. We truly are a reflection of those who came before us. Our physical features, or even mannerisms, sometimes acquired unknowingly, are merely hints of everything else we carry from our elders. Thank you, Mom, for embodying (or bringing forth) such a beautiful part of my grandmother. I am grateful to be the daughter of the path you carved, the journey you made before me.
